Merry Christmas From The Hat Shop

So here we are almost at the end of the year ready for time with family and friends for those of us luckily enough to celebrate in that way.
2018 has been a tough year,  the high street has been very quite people have been tightening their belts and who can blame them.
As usual I have been lucky to have orders that keep me going but it's definitely a roller coaster of emotions from month to month and an uncertainty to your usefulness or if you are relevant anymore.
A creative life is a wonderful way to earn a living you could say a privilege but an uncertain one at the same time. There are shops closing everyday. My work fills me with joy and my passion never changes as I strive to create lovely things that make people happy.

In January after being asked countless times I have decided to run a short
Millinery Course for 4 weeks ONLY 3 PLACES AVAILABLE £25 per class  [inc all materials]
Beginning 2nd week of January on the 8th Every Tues evening from 7pm till 9pm at the shop in my workroom.

Let's hope that 2019 will bring a new energy and a feeling of resurgence in business.
Thanks to everyone for their support through the year it's very much appreciated and I am looking forward to January when I will return after a Christmas break.
Merry Christmas to all.

Cold Enough To Wear A Hat

Natures pallet continues to provide all the inspiration for colour choices with the fog, frost and low light tones while we keep making warm hats. Last week was freezing here but the hoar frost bought the most beautiful images with crystals on all the trees and bushes.
Felt hats like the grey one are still very popular as they pull down over the ears which is never a bad
thing in the winter months.
I have a little selection of lovely boiled wools and this neck wrap is made with a mustard piece lined with a silky paisley print.
A few wedding hats were made in January but mostly cocktail headbands as they tend to be celebrated indoors.
However all our spring / summer hats are all under way, ready for warmer months and pretty summer weddings.

Hello January

Happy new year all hope you had a great Christmas break,
I managed to get to the coast a couple of times. Once down to Bournemouth and then a New Years day trip to the lovely Runswick Bay just around the corner from Whitby.
I love the coast I find it recharges my batteries and clears my head which everyone needs at the start of the new year don't you think !
So today I took down my decorations in the shop and had changed the window displays and other areas of the shop to create a fresh feel.
I re open on Sat 7th at 10am and will be busy re stocking with hats and accessories for the up coming months.
It will also be time to start blocking wedding and event hats in preparation for spring weddings so there's plenty to keep me busy.
I shall put together a sale basket of various items so if you are planning a visit be sure to have a look for a lovely little bargain.
Don't forget that the shop tel number has changed it's now 01422 618322

Happy Birthday Hat Therapy

So there we go, I've officially been open 10 years and to prove it I thew an open house celebration on Saturday.
Lots of lovely things were made to fill the shop with a variety of hats and accessories, I even made my very own cardboard chandeliers twined with ivy and lights for both windows.
Lots of clients and friends popped in throughout the day and we celebrated with drinks and lovely food. It was great to see so many people all in a Christmas mood and ready to celebrate.
Presents were purchased and lots of hats found new homes.
So Monday morning I needed a quick trip to buy some new fabrics to keep me going till Christmas, however I was really tired, and hopped on the wrong train on the way back home.
All was not lost as I got the little rural bus back home with scenic views all the way. Silver lining !
The lovely mug was a birthday present from a friend and sums up my week perfectly.

A change Around In The Shop

I've had a move around of furniture in the shop. The dressing table is now on the hat wall and the display cabinet is facing you as you come through the front door.
It always looks strange for a day or two but now I really like it.

I have a large box of soft leather in great colours and we are making lots of zip up bags as a gift idea with the bottom section of the bag in these lovely leathers.
Also the blue neck wrap around scarf was taking ages to finish as I was knitting the last section in vintage ribbon. However I popped it in the shop on Saturday about 1pm and by 2pm it had sold.
Also in the pipe line are many felt hats, including trilbies and cloches, which will come in handy for this cold weather which is apparently heading our way !

I will be sending out a season news letter shortly so if you'd like to sign up to receive it, you can sign up on the website. Just click the 'Shop Now' button and it takes you straight there.

A week At The Hat Shop

Here's a round up of my week in pictures. Last Saturday was a beautiful day and the sun streamed into the shop and as our British summer has been rather unpredictable it was great to have the door open.
I re trimmed a trilby in navy blue petersham ribbon for an Italian man who was going to a wedding back home in Italy.
There was a little selection of accessories made in a very fine wool check.
A trilby with a velvet ribbon trim was the main piece but also a few smaller items too.
I was also busy using my trusty Jiffy steamer which is basically like a big kettle that continues to boil and create steam in order to create hats. This is the water container which I gave a good clean before re filling. I made a really smart navy blue and lilac hat but can't show it yet as the wedding isn't till the end of August.
I now have a new intern working with me and two more joining over the next few weeks.
We will be starting to make our Autumn range very soon and I have realised that in four months time I will have been open 10 years so there's a little celebration to plan.!
