Birthdays and Braids

So I started last week celebrating a friends 50th birthday. We all gathered at a lovely location where all the children played games on the lawn and the adults sipped Pimms and generally had a good time.
There have bee some very busy days in the shop but a few new items were added to the selection including a cotton bag with a rich brown leather front pocket and a cloche style grey cotton cap.It is definitely my favourite hat at the moment.
Plus I opened a box and found some long forgotten straw braids. Bonus.!
Next week I need to get very busy as the following week I will be on holiday.
Rebecca one of my Interns will be leaving on Friday so expect to see freshly baked scones in the next post, They are her favourites for morning tea.

Colour Blast

Two different hats that have been whisked away from the shop this week. One a navy blue bell hop with navy veil, ruby silk petals and smokey blue crystals, and the other a button hat a with pink and orange silk
flower and a delicately wired trim.
Silk can be hand stiffened to different degrees so that you can then heat it and shape it into many shapes.
There are flower irons which will replicate a particular flower petal but I prefer to make mine a little more organic in their finished look.
Both ladies were tickled pink when they took the lid off their hat boxes. I always leave the lid on.. love a little drama.!

On The Artist's Trail

Anyone who has been to Hebden Bridge before will know that there are many talented artist's that live and work here.
So on Sunday [for the first time after living here over 8 years] I managed to pop along to Brooklyn and Northlight Studios.
There were so many studios to pop into and view so many different styles of work.
I took a few photograph's of things that took my eye and this is a small selection.
I bought a photograph of an art installation that I first saw in Manchester a few years ago of old  rolled up bed sheets which portrayed the ebb and flow of life, it was a very powerful piece and I am really pleased to have found it.
This weekend sees the Tour De France passing through the town on Sunday and it's already looking like a party is coming to town. Yellow bunting everywhere if it would only stop raining.!
