Merry Christmas Everybody

So it's the last post of the year, and tonight we should be able to gaze at a super moon, larger, brighter and with just that little more sparkle.
I want to thank everyone for reading the blog and sharing my work.
Every little helps as they say. I'm looking forward to January when I shall be back with new ideas and designs.
I bought this glorious Irish wool cloth a couple of weeks ago and it has made a great trilby and neck wrap and it looks great in my window. Perfect Christmas hat.
So whatever you do this Christmas I hope you have a lovely time.

Happy Birthday Hat Therapy

So there we go, I've officially been open 10 years and to prove it I thew an open house celebration on Saturday.
Lots of lovely things were made to fill the shop with a variety of hats and accessories, I even made my very own cardboard chandeliers twined with ivy and lights for both windows.
Lots of clients and friends popped in throughout the day and we celebrated with drinks and lovely food. It was great to see so many people all in a Christmas mood and ready to celebrate.
Presents were purchased and lots of hats found new homes.
So Monday morning I needed a quick trip to buy some new fabrics to keep me going till Christmas, however I was really tired, and hopped on the wrong train on the way back home.
All was not lost as I got the little rural bus back home with scenic views all the way. Silver lining !
The lovely mug was a birthday present from a friend and sums up my week perfectly.

CHRISTMAS At The Hepworth

Last weekend I took a selection of my hats and accessories to The Winter Fair at The Hepworh in Wakefield.

It was a very busy two days with over 500 visitors on the Saturday. My market neighbours also had wonderful things for sale, print makers, ceramicists and other artist.s
I met lots of lovely people including a couple who had travelled from London for the day to start their Christmas shopping, they had read about it in The Guardian and decided to visit.
I also spoke to a couple of ladies wearing hats they bought from me last year !

I managed a quick walk up in the woods around Hebden to clear my thoughts and the light was just beautiful. Always a good idea when you need a little peace and quite.

Now this week I'm concentrating on my 10th Anniversary celebration at the shop On Saturday 5th December so if you are not too far away please feel free to pop in for drinks and posh nosh from 10am till 5pm.

So far this week as well as stocking the shop with lots of hats and gift ideas I have made cardboard chandeliers for this year's festive decorations.

Must go and keep making lots to do and the days seem to fly by at the moment.

Keep On Sewing !

So in a weeks time I will be ready for The Hepworth Wakefield Winter Fair.
It will run all day Sat and Sunday next weekend and will be a delightful selection of hand made items perfect for Christmas presents so don't miss out if you fancy a visit to The Hepworth it's well worth it.

We have been sewing as quick as we can over the last few weeks so that I have a lovely selection to take with me and also plenty of stock for the shop as it will still be open on Sat 21st.

I went fabric buying and bought some beautiful wools in checks which I have started to sew today.
I am making neck wraps and lots of hats styles in all the colours so keep an eye open for them on the websiteOutside the shop the road has been resurfaced and for several nights 10pm - 4am we had the delights of trucks reversing and heavy machinery but its finished and actually much quieter surface than it was.

November And The Fog Rolls In

So November has arrived and right on queue the fog has arrived too, I actually like foggy weather it's so atmospheric but I know that travel wise it can be difficult.
The bag at the top of the post is a large knot bag we make them as silk evening bags as a rule but decided to make a larger pattern to make a day bag too.
This heavy cotton bag has a bright blue leather base and is lined in the same fabric as the outer.
I am going to make some with a slightly longer strap so you can slip it over your shoulder.
I've also had a changed the style of my business cards they are now square, quite big with my details on the reverse yet still plenty of space to sketch designs and staple bits of fabric on, perfect.
At the moment my welcome doorstep plant are these pretty little violas, just lovely.

A change Around In The Shop

I've had a move around of furniture in the shop. The dressing table is now on the hat wall and the display cabinet is facing you as you come through the front door.
It always looks strange for a day or two but now I really like it.

I have a large box of soft leather in great colours and we are making lots of zip up bags as a gift idea with the bottom section of the bag in these lovely leathers.
Also the blue neck wrap around scarf was taking ages to finish as I was knitting the last section in vintage ribbon. However I popped it in the shop on Saturday about 1pm and by 2pm it had sold.
Also in the pipe line are many felt hats, including trilbies and cloches, which will come in handy for this cold weather which is apparently heading our way !

I will be sending out a season news letter shortly so if you'd like to sign up to receive it, you can sign up on the website. Just click the 'Shop Now' button and it takes you straight there.

October Sunshine Fills The Shop

October has been a really lovely month so far and I have had the shop door open several times.
Last week I made an interesting sculptural headpiece in vintage wired petersham and Italian rubber pieces.
I love this style of head wear as it defies all rules and allows you to shape your materials as you wish.
I am really enjoying using wool tweed cloth to create hats, bags and neck wraps. It's great to work with and looks rich and interesting before you even cut it out.
Work continues on the website, thanks for clicking on the 'shop now'  button it all helps !
We will be starting to create our Christmas window ideas very soon the year is just disappearing fast.

Hand Knitted Wrist Warmers

It's starting to get chilly again so there will be many other colours of our wrist warmers on the website very soon. I always sell a lot of wrist warmers at this time of year and lots of people who work from home and spend hours on the computer love them as they can keep their hands warm yet still use their fingers.!

Get Married At The Hepworth

On Monday I had a date at The Hepworth which is one of my favourite places to visit. Normally of course there are lots of people wandering around but on a Monday they are closed which is the perfect time for a photo shoot. It was slightly surreal wandering around the gallery, sometime totally on your own, but it felt very special too.
My talented pal Shelly of Toast Of Leeds was working her magic in the gallery as they are up dating their wedding presence. (did you know you can get married there)
How fabulous would that be.
So along with some other lovely pals we all tootled over to Wakefield and had a fantastic day helping to produce some amazing images to tantalise the public.!
Shelly will be sharing them so I will get them on the blog when they arrive. (The ones I spied on her camera were just amazing so I can't wait to see them)
I also met the rather dashing Henry who looked after us royally and will be co ordinating weddings.
The images above were taken on my phone, one was a grey felt cocktail headpiece and the other  was made from a vintage collar.

I will get all the details for the  wedding gowns, make up artist, hair stylist, models, jewellery maker etc once I blog the offical photographs.

A Day In The Palm House

Sunday morning I was up before it became light and packed the car. Then after picking up my friend, artist  Julia Ogden it was off to Liverpool to the most glorious Palm House.
What a beautiful building to hold an artisan fair with natural light and high ceilings.
Surrounded by plants and lovely people we all had a brilliant day, long day but non the less enjoyable.
Outside there were lots of delicious foods to be eaten and all sorts of interesting products.
Inside it was a cornucopia of crafts and works of beauty to browse and buy.
On the way to Sefton Park where the Palm House is situated I drove past the famous 'Penny Lane'
as penned by Paul McCartney, Had to sing a few bars.!
After a really great day it was back home by 9pm just a little 'pooped'
However I am now back to full strength and back at the hatting.

Refreshed & Ready To Roll

After a fabulous week of good weather in the glorious countryside of Powys I am now back at work and raring to go.
We stayed at the very peaceful Glyngnwydd Cottages which I can really recommend as it was just perfect. The sun was out and we relaxed in front of our cottage on a little yellow bench.
A little fresh water stream ran along a stone clad channel which was perfect for washing your wellies.
We then went on to the coast and Cardigan bay is very beautiful with all the villages and towns painting their houses in various colours, making it really attractive.
This week the first cocktail hat to leave the shop was a little button hat trimmed with vintage petersham ribbon and mustard glass beads. It was whisked off to Bordeaux so I expect the wine would be rather lovely and a good time was had by all.
Tomorrow is nation felt hat day, who knew that.! I didn't. So expect pictures of a few felt hats on twitter thoughtout the day.
I will be heading out to Liverpool this Sunday 20th Sept to the wonderful Palm House in Sefton Park.
The beautifully restored Victorian palm house hosts many events throughout the year as well as artisan fairs. I shall be there all day with a selection of hats and accessories so pop along and say hello if you live near by.
It's good to back.
