Lace Feathers

I have stiffened some lace fabric to create lace feathers and sewn a wire spine down the centre back so that they can be twisted into shape .Depending on how much stiffener you use will affect the outcome of your fabric so add a little at a time till you get the right feel.
I have been adding beads and veiling to my feathers as I have made a birdcage veil with a singular feather that clips in the hair and a cocktail hat with a veil and gold beaded feather in a slightly darker ecru.
The pictures don't really do them justice as they really are very pretty and delicate looking.
I have also made a few coloured ones and a couple of cotton ones. Perhaps I should try to construct a full bird.!

Linen and Lace

After finding this pretty piece of net/lace fabric I have made a clutch bag by backing it with interfaced linen. This gives it a firm platform to sit on and makes it possible to use as a bag.
It is only small but you would get lipstick, keys and a little money with room to spare.
The cocktail hat is given form by using brim reed which is a light plastic wire and allows you to manipulate lighter fabrics into firm structures.
I also made a made corsage by pleating the net and cutting away small areas around the edge, before securing the center with beading in the same way as the hat.
This has a pretty feminine look and could be used for weddings or the races.
It's just a shame it didn't come in any other colours.! I'll keep looking you never know what you might find when fabric hunting.
