Boiled wool And Taffeta

A carpet of leaves have started to fall everywhere.I love the colours, shapes and patterns that they make.
This week I went to my local library and spotted sitting on the shelf the new Vivienne Westwood auto biography, It was the first time it had been displayed for loaning and I was the first person to take it out. It felt very special with only the one return date stamped on the front sleeve.
Ive only read a little so far but it's good and very detailed were the story begins in Paris fashion week.
I then went fabric shopping which is never a chore and found some grey boiled wool, damson taffeta, and a few other nice pieces of winter fabrics.
So I got busy with Evangeline and together we made a few hats and neck wraps.
A few have sold straight away, I think fabric speaks to you as you spot it and it's what constantly draws people into the shop, fabric, shape, and tone.
I'm looking forward to using more this week and seeing which shapes we will create.
Also need to create a Halloween window or my daughter will not be too pleased.

Trilby Hat & A Shoulder Bag

I came across this great thick cotton velour fabric last week and decided to make a trilby hat and a bag. It worked out well so I made two bags.!
The fabric has a slight self pattern but as it's only one colour it leaves a lot of possibilities for adding a little detail.
I shall be making more in other shapes, possibly clutch bags and a cloche hat too.
I shall be going to East Riddlesden Hall Wedding fair on the Sunday 9th of Nov so next week I have some new designs using unusual textiles to make.

Time To Wrap Up

So it is definitely time to start adding layers and wrapping up to keep the cold out.
Extra layers needed for early mornings and late evenings, hats gloves and scarves will all be making their way out of drawers.
I like winter dressing, I like the fabrics, the tones and the layering.
The poncho is once again a key accessory this season and perfect as a great cover up in general.
I have two hand knitted ones in the shop with more being made in other colours by my clever sister.
Have a look at the on line shop if you would like one.
Wool felt cloches are back and once again I can't make them quick enough, they are smart, come in many tones and perfect for everyday, £75 each like the grey one in the picture.
All the flowers are now starting to change colour and loose their colours but the hydrangea is still beautiful so I took a quick picture of it before it sleeps for the winter.
I also have a new selection of Cathy Edwards leather bags and the bright orange and black make a striking window display of course there are others in the shop in more subdued colours as well as the ever popular black.

New Street Sign

It was time to have my street sign re done as it had my old logo and colour's plus after several years of general weather it was looking shabby.
A local sign maker has done a great job for me and was very patient as I wanted specific fonts, tones and spacing.! However I am delighted with it and it was exactly how I had drawn it.
This week in the mix of making this lovely little pill box hat was made for a wedding last Saturday and was worn with a black and ivory suit.
It was a sunny afternoon for the wedding party so I'm sure all the hats required no umbrella's.!
I am now making lots of felt cloche hats such as the red one and they are popular for everyday and weddings.
Still continuing to fill the shop with warm head wear and accessories which you can now buy directly from the blog ... just on the right hand side near the top of the page.
Keep warm,
Chrissie x
