The ever popular cloche hat

One of my most popular hats this summer has been the cotton cloche which my clever sister has been hand crocheting for me in many different shades. This one is in a lovely rich cream cotton with square shell beads I bought in France some time ago. The pattern is a very clever one which she has developed into something very unique and once finished I create a kick pleat and then embellish them with a variety of buckles and beads etc.
Normally speaking the close fitting cloche does not suit all face shapes but with a great kick pleat at the side this one does.
She is now busy making the same the same hat in wools and wool mixes in readiness for the winter. Shhh we don't want to mention winter quite yet.!

Hepworth Wakefield

I have wanted to visit the Hepwoth Gallery for ages but never seem to find the time. So as it's the summer holidays and it is open on a Monday when I am closed I was able to go.
I have read a little about Barbara Hepworth and her work but never seen any.
It's important to get out once in a while and just go and wander around a truly lovely space. It's very calm and simple inside yet outside the building itself is very hard edged and grey.
I loved everything, the shapes and shadows, the other exhibitions even the cafe was well above average.
They even had soap carving downstairs for the children.
I must get out more often.! I am now full of ideas for new hat shapes.!

A visit to Tatton Park

Since returning from a week away I have been to Tatton Park Flower Show in Cheshire which was a feast for the eyes in every direction. Including a Helter Skelter much to my daughters delight.
The show gardens were wonderful with interesting shapes and plants. Inside the flower hall there were shades and hues of every spectrum of the rainbow.
It was very inspirational and I felt there were many plants that could easily have been twisted to be worn on the head.! Typical milliners viewpoint.
It did rain but that didn't spoil the day.
On the hattery front I finished a red and black fused sinamay hat just before I left to go on holiday so I though I should add it to the flower post.
