Ascot Hats Crystals And Leaves

This week there are a few last minute hats for Ascot where everyone wants to look fabulous.
I have a selection of hats ready to go and there is still just enough time to have a hat made to order.
The lovely little Bell Hop hat with antique veil and tumbling smoky crystals is great to wear all day put really cuts a dash in the style stakes.
As you may know I love flowers and at the moment my little pots are all flowering beautifully.
Toady I am going to make a hat for my display during the Tour De France it will be very round.!

Soft Golds And Mad Hatters Tea

I'm a little behind with my blog posts at the moment so here's a selection of whats been happening in the workroom lately.
Soft Gold tones look great with cream bridal gowns so this week there has been a selection of head wear with that in mind.
A bell hop hat with an antique gold veil secured with smoky gold swarovski crystals that tumble across the side of the left eye and a couple of smaller cocktail hats, plus the cloche hat with the ripple brim is now finished and on show in the shop.
Also this week one of my lovely interns left and gave me the most thoughtful gifts including the Mad Hatters Tea.! Melissa has been working with me for 11 months so I will miss her but she returns to uni in Sept to finish her degree and she'll have a few new tricks up her sleeve when she starts making her costumes again.
Today is the Hebden Bridge Hand Made Parade which is a little like the Rio Carnival but in Yorkshire and I can't wait to see the amazing parade and hear the Samba band.

Hat Blocking

I have had an afternoon of blocking, lots of neutral tones in fine straw and sinamay ready to create a couple of orders.
The creamy ivory fine straw with the rippled brim is being made for the shop and I love the way the straw will mould into organic swirls.
However when it comes to stabilising the edge and creating a small silk edge the hand sewing gets rather tricky but with a little patience it's soon whipped into shape.
At the weekend it was great to see a hat of mine on the front cover of The Yorkshire Post, the photo shoot from last month was in their weekend magazine and there was a five page spread.
Very nice thank you very much.!
This coming Monday I have a bridal shoot which I am really looking forward to. Their will be some very talented suppliers involved so as soon as there are a photographs I shall get them on the blog.

Cocktails and Magnolias

The Magnolia tree outside the workroom at the back of the shop is in bloom at the moment and is just perfect. The shape and colours are really beautiful and very inspiring.
Spring weddings are in full swing now and every day we are making different head wear to compliment many different outfits. There have been some striking ones this week.
This little button cocktail hat was made to match a silk 60's inspired dress so I used a little of the fabric to create a flower.
I sandwiched together different tones of sinamay to get a tonal match and it worked really well.
Later this month I have arranged a  photographic shoot for some of my bridal pieces in a disused chapel which will be a brilliant backdrop and I am looking forward to posting the pictures at the end of the month.
