Adding A Little Autumn To The Shop

Around this time every August I start to add a little sprinkle of Autumnal items to the selection in the shop.
The colours for the upcoming season are rich tones, mustard, reds, oranges, burgundy and grey to mention a few so here's my first few products. There's a cheeky black beret and a pair of fine 4 ply wrist warmers or fingerless gloves and a lovely tweed wallet and a matching keyring.
The neck wrap is an interesting grey and black textured wool mix so will look great over a simple jumper or over your coat to create a fabulous collar. The button is a perfect combination of grey and black and the popper is sewn directly behind it.
Winter dressing can be an interesting mixture of textures and layers, I actually love winter dressing.
Lets enjoy a last few rays of sunshine when ever they pop out from behind the clouds first,!

Stripey Quill For A Geometric Dress

This week I made a black crin head piece for a lady going to a glamorous wedding on Sat.
Her striking geometric jersey knit dress in black, white and yellow needed an enticing head piece to compliment it, so I used pleated crin in black with a yellow button that was exactly the right tone of  yellow and then covered it in little  black crystals.
To give a more depth I cut out three black suede leaf shapes and added a crystal at the tip of each one.
The black and white stripey quill added the drama and it all went together just beautifully.

A week At The Hat Shop

Here's a round up of my week in pictures. Last Saturday was a beautiful day and the sun streamed into the shop and as our British summer has been rather unpredictable it was great to have the door open.
I re trimmed a trilby in navy blue petersham ribbon for an Italian man who was going to a wedding back home in Italy.
There was a little selection of accessories made in a very fine wool check.
A trilby with a velvet ribbon trim was the main piece but also a few smaller items too.
I was also busy using my trusty Jiffy steamer which is basically like a big kettle that continues to boil and create steam in order to create hats. This is the water container which I gave a good clean before re filling. I made a really smart navy blue and lilac hat but can't show it yet as the wedding isn't till the end of August.
I now have a new intern working with me and two more joining over the next few weeks.
We will be starting to make our Autumn range very soon and I have realised that in four months time I will have been open 10 years so there's a little celebration to plan.!

Mustard Bag Beads And Flowers

Mustard is such a wonderful colour, it's a yellow that you can wear not too acidic not too bright.
When I found this thick cotton drill I knew that it would make a great bag, I decided to make a double pouch crossbody bag, with a suede trim on the edge of the straps, fastened with nickel rivets for strenght.
There has not been an abundance of sunshine in these parts just lately so the other evening when the sun poked it's head out from behind the clouds I jumped at the chance to photograph the bag.
The light was kind and picked our the tone of the mustard beautifully.
I also had some glass beads due to be used for a hat trim that I picked up to take outside with me and the cosmos plant that has been sitting at the shop door for a while finished off the mustard theme perfectly.
