Twists Turns and Sculptured Headwear

Almost August already, who's going to a wedding this month?
I love that each wedding is so unique and so is the head wear required. It my job so varied and interesting.
This week it's a three tone [Soft gold  Ivory  Black] with a soft net and beaded trim head piece.
Crin is a woven farbic which lends itself to many soft twists and turns that create wondeful spirals.
I like it for this very reason as sometimes you need very little elce to obtain an amazing shape.
Another simple style is the wired vintage petersham ribbon headband as quite often a wedding guest just wants something simple but shapley.
Then there's the power dressing trilby. This one is a navy and ivory fine straw with a soft grey check trim.
Plus there are a few feathers for the trim. Yes me using feathers !
They are simple biot feathers that I have knotted to add a little twist. Very club tropicana don't you think.
I am hoping to have a break during August myself although nothing arranged as yet, hope everyone has a lovey summer holiday.

Big Blue Skies

Well summer has finally arrived and we have been basking in sunshine and blue skys in the UK.
On Monday I walked up out of the valley where we live and and picked billberries which are tiny tasty little things and definatley stain your fingers and clothes, but it was good to be outside and feel the sun on your skin.
As you can see I purchased an older Pfaff machine as they are just perfect stitchers and run as smooth as silk in my opinion. However the foot pedal was broken and caused a few issues. Then remembered that I have a German intern at the moment, after general laughing at our slow thinking, Theresa got on to German E bay and bingo a new one was available.
Wedding work continues with veils like the pale grey version seen here and the lovely thank you comes from a bride and groom who designed their own stationery. Fab isin't it.
Hope you've been enjoying the sunshine too.

Summer Weddings (in the rain)

It just keeps raining at the moment.
Last weekend I was close to Lake Windermere cooking at cubs camp and it absolutely tipped it down right until we left when the sun came out !
I always feel sorry for people when they have gone to so much trouble with their wedding outfits then on the big day it pours with rain.
However there's nothing you can do about it so it's up with the  umbrella and best foot forward.
A selection of hats of the week this week includes a open weave straw which is tricky to sew when there's more holes than material!

Rachel Lucie Pop Up Shop

This weekend it's Open Studios in Hebden Bridge.
As you would expect there is a wealth of wonderful artists work on view from painting to ceramics and much more.
I will also open my millinery studio and show my workings and equipment plus hats that are in the process of being made.
My friend Rachel Lucie is also having her own Pop Up Shop in Hat Therapy on Sat and Sun where she will be showing and selling her jewellery.

Last night she dropped off her shapely dressing table ready to display her wares today.
So if you are coming to Hebden don't forget to pop into the shop and have a browse.

I myself will be in a field with my wellies on cooking at cub camp !
